Saltford residents are already concerned by the disturbance caused by the noise from aircraft overflying the village on the landing approach to Bristol Airport, particularly at night. They do not want this situation to continue, and certainly not to be worsened by an increase in the number of flights â?? even with the quieter aircraft promised. The Parish Council feels strongly that no flights into BIA should be allowed between the hours of 10pm and 7am. In any case, the Council wants to see the flight corridor adjusted so that overflying of the village is avoided by current, as well as future, air traffic. There appears to be no practical reason why the landing approach to the airport should not be over open countryside to the south of Bath, rather than over built-up areas such as Saltford and Keynsham. ii. While the direct impact on Saltford of an increase in road traffic to the airport is not easily established, residents already suffers from the nuisance and pollution of an overcrowded main road (the A4) and the Parish Council wants to discourage anything that might make the situation worse. Given the proposed increase of more than 50% in the number of passengers using the airport, the target of only 15% of passengers using public transport is of concern. Certainly there should be no increase in passengers until the infrastructure is in place to make that target achievable. iii. The issue of climate change is of growing concern generally, and Saltford Parish Council is not convinced that the increase in air traffic through BIA proposed in the application is consistent with emissions targets now being proposed. The Parish Councils Airport Association have raised a number of other issues and propose that airport expansion is capped at 8 million passengers per annum until 2016 to allow potential problems and benefits to be properly assessed before any further expansion is allowed â?? Saltford Parish Council endorses this approach.
