The proposed development is completely sited on Green belt land. It would have a huge detrimental effect on the environment and wildlife. Land that has never been built on will be swallowed up to become an urban sprawl. In a time when we should protecting the environment and countryside and cutting down on pollution, it would be disastrous to build on this land and lose yet more of the English countyside. The land is also next to Ashton Hill Plantation, a Regional Wildlife Site. The roads around failand are already congested with commuter traffic from Nailsea, Clevedon, Tickenham etc. By building 500 houses this will make the roads even busier and more dangerous for the people already living in Failand. Given that a proposed development to build 2 houses at 45 clevedon road was refused as the council did not want to increase commuter traffic on to clevedon road, to consider 500 houses would be preposterous. Failand is a rural setting, many people have moved there to live in a quiet setting. To build these houses would essentially ruin a village. There is no call for extra shops, a doctors surgery or school. For a developer to propose this is ludicrous and utterly foolish. I would say most people in Failand are happy with the facilities they have and if they weren't they probably would not have moved to Failand in the first instance. I also feel that when the screening for the EIA was carried out, the outcome of this was completely overuled by the government office of the southwest with absolutely no justification. I hope that when considering an application that will have such an adverse on Failand that you will primarily consider the views of Failand residents, who after all are the community and the people that have chosen to live and make Failand the quintessential village it is today. To build this development would ruin the village and upset so many people.
